You did it!
Yesterday the campaign for the families of the unjustly fired leaders of the Boston school bus drivers union passed its end-of-year fundraising goal of $10,000.
This successful campaign, which raised $10,291 in just over a month, has put the criminal union-busting executives of Veolia Transportation on notice: this union is not backing down. Its members have allies near and far, who in no time came to the aid of a righteous, fighting union who does what’s best for its members and the peoples’ movement as a whole.
Many participants in this campaign have asked if they will still be able to contribute after January 1, and the answer is yes: the fundraising campaign on this website will continue. So will the local’s fight against Veolia, with two major Boston events in January: a follow-up city council hearing investigating Veolia’s breach of contract, and “Solidarity Day 2,” another major demonstration in support of Local 8751.
This milestone could not have been achieved without your help. Veolia may have deep pockets, lawyers and billions of dollars – but it doesn’t have the strongest force on earth: working class solidarity. In this age of sequester cuts and rampant unemployment, it’s the only force we can rely on.
The four fired leaders still don’t have their jobs back. The struggle continues. The despicable Veolia corporation is hell-bent on tearing up the union’s contract and with it the pensions, benefits and rights the members have fought so hard for. It was brought into Boston for just that purpose — by the same pro-1% forces who are dismantling equal, quality education.
The fundraising campaign has solidified the national solidarity for driving union-busting out of Boston as well as giving a boost to the growing anti-Veolia movement. On to justice for the four — which will also be a blow against union-busting, austerity and privatization, and a victory for Local 8751, students and equal education for all!
