Veolia, a union busting, apartheid-enforcing corporation, is trying to starve out the four unjustly fired leaders of the Boston school bus drivers union, which has stood up to racism in Boston for decades. This notorious multi-national corporation breaks contracts with threats and corruption all around the world.
Please help in this emergency campaign to raise $10,000 by the New Year. Consider giving a donation in the name of a loved one as a holiday gift.
The four illegally fired drivers have been living without an income for a year. You can help by going to the website at http://www.
Veolia wants to roll back 40 years of job security and benefits won by the mostly Haitian, Cape Verdean and African-American women and men. When the drivers resisted attacks on their contractual rights, Veolia unjustly fired four union leaders. One of the four now faces serious trumped-up felony charges.
The Boston school bus drivers’ union was born in 1974 when drivers defended the right of African American schoolchildren to desegregated, quality education. Its members drove through hails of rocks and bottles hurled by racist mobs attacking the buses and children. Forty years later, this union supported parents’ call to keep middle school students on school buses – instead of the austerity plan to dump the children on public transit.
Veolia is an international conglomerate that practices union-busting and corporate ruthlessness around the world. In addition to its anti-union reputation, it also a target of the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions movement for its role in expanding illegal apartheid settlements in occupied Palestine.
The school bus drivers may be fighting a corporate monster, but they are fighting back valiantly and are supported by thousands of people like you. Please give what you can and pass this message on.
